Schools in Vihiga County to benefit from water and sanitation programme

The Director of the USA based Water Project Organization Ms Crissie Ferrara and her Western Water and Sanitation Forum counterpart Humphrey Buradi when they paid Vihiga County Governor Moses Akaranga a courtesy call in his office.

The organization plans to roll out water and sanitation programmes in public primary school in the county.

Crissie said that they will provide 50,000 litre water tanks to schools, construct toilets and washing stations.

She added that they will also construct 30 community springs under the programme.

“We will also undertake capacity building for beneficiaries of the projects to ensure sustainability of the facilities” she explained.

Governor thanked the partners for choosing Vihiga adding that the projects will be of great help to people he represents.

He added that the county was spending a lot of money to cure waterborne diseases and provision of clean and tap water to help in controlling such diseases.

The new Education Minister Prof Musalia Edebe and his Water counterpart Sande Mukhuna and Water Chief Officer Tom Kisia were present.
