Muhoroni MP Onyango Koyoo who was elected on a People’s Democratic Party ticket will defend his seat through ODM.
He will fight for the ticket against former Education assistant minister Ayiecho Olweny.
He is Koyoo’s main opponent for the Muhoroni seat.
Olweny, the ODM Kisumu county chairman, served for two terms as Muhoroni MP before Koyoo defeated him in 2013.
Koyoo left the party after what he termed “shoddy nominations” which lead to Olweny being chosen ODM’s candidate.
He said he is still a strong supporter of Cord leader Raila Odinga.
Koyoo said some people turned their backs on ODM “after the party helped them join Parliament”.
He said mismanaged nominations cost the party many seats at county and national levels.
“Leaders who were elected on party tickets other than ODM due to bungled nominations, still have faith in the party,” Koyoo said.
In Luo Nyanza, all MPs were elected on an ODM ticket except in Muhoroni, Awendo, Alego-Usonga and Kisumu West constituencies.
The MPs are Jared Opiyo (Awendo) and Koyoo (Muhoroni), Olago Aluoch (Kisumu West) and Muluan Omondi (Alego-Usonga).
Koyoo will campaign on a platform of his infrastructure development “which my predecessor could not do in 10 years”.
He said some projects by Olweny are incomplete and asked for funds to be accounted for.
“Some schools are substandard,” Koyoo said.
Olweny dismissed Koyoo’s claims, saying the projects he started are up to par.
