Governor Akaranga fills vacant cabinet positions

After months of various departments not having County Executive Committee Members (CECM), Governor Moses Akaranga has appointed two new CEC members.

Ms Ebby Omido has been appointed the CEC member in charge of Trade, Tourism and Industrialization. Youth were not left out as former Wemilabi ward administrator Dismus Ojuok takes over the department of Sports, Youths, Gender and social services.

During the swearing in ceremony held on 29th March 2016 at the county headquarters, Governor Akaranga congratulated the new members of his cabinet and told them to ensure that service delivery to the citizens is their key mandate.

“You have been appointed to these positions no to serve yourselves but to serve residents of Vihiga county”, said Akaranga. He reminded them that their appointment to public office meant that he has confidence in them therefore they have no option but to deliver.

In what appeared to be a mini reshuffle, Omido takes over from Silas Kipkemboi who was in acting capacity. Top on her agenda will be hosting of the Miss Tourism national event set for May 22nd to 29th at Mbale Municipal Grounds and Finals at Kidundu stadium. Ojuok takes over from Nixon Amendi.

In his address Akaranga told Ojuok to ensure that the National Super League side Vihiga United maintains their lead at the league.

“You are taking over the department when Vihiga United team sponsored by the county is leading the Super League…make sure they remain at the top because if they go down I will bring you down too,” Akaranga told Ojuok, a football lover.

Amendi who has been credited for steering the football team to great heights now moves to the department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock development.

Johnston Khejeri who has been in charge of Agriculture moves to Roads, Infrastructure and Urban Planning.

Last year, Governor Akaranga appointed Moses Luvisi to the finance docket to take over from Evans Kaiga and Dr. Musalia Edebe to the Education, science and technology department who took over from Elmanos Angaluki Vodoti. Zilpa Andiva was moved from Roads to Health department.

The county boss reminded his members of the cabinet laxity will not be tolerated and that they should uphold ethics while dispersing their duties to county residents.

He said that now he has a full cabinet, he now expects nothing less than effective service delivery to the residents.

He was flanked by Deputy Governor Caleb Amaswashe, County Secretary Linet Abdalla, CEC members, Chief Officers and MCAs among other leaders.
